An Inter-Disciplinary
Study of Louis Sachar’s Holes

While
visiting with Ms. Karen Williams’ AIG Fifth Grade Class, a true cross-curriculum
study took place. Specific vocabulary terms included: palindrome, discipline,
inter-disciplinary, and homonym.
During
the lesson, three competency goals were addressed and the specific subject
areas were: literature (which included the application of library skills),
math, and science. This presentation included multi-media components, concrete
objects, such as a shovel and cubic foot of dirt, multiple handouts, and possible
exercises for future discussion.
