It has been a long standing
tradition to honor or remember loved ones by sharing the love of reading
and knowledge through a donation of a book to the library. In
turn libraries have acknowledged such generosity by placing bookplates
behind the front covers of these gifts. Libraries also tended to keep
a record of these gifts, but those records were often never published
or hard to find.
The staff of the Ethel K. Smith
Library is happy to announce that it is recognizing the generosity, depth
of spirit, and plain good taste of its many Friends by publishing its
current list of Gift and Memorial
Books on the Library's Web-site. Books given in honor to the Library,
and Memorial books are on separate lists. Each list is arranged alphabetically
by the person or persons the book is intended to honor or remember.
These lists are a work in progress,
based on the best available records. It is the library's sincerest intent
to make these records as complete and up-to-date as possible, but gaps
are inevitable. The fastest remedy for any omissions or gaps can be made
by contacting Ms. Nancy Williams at nwilliam@wingate.edu.
