Section VI. Unique Collections
Section VI. A. Kincaid Collection
The Juvenile and Young Adult books in the Ethel K. Smith Library,
formally a subset of the CMC, are housed in the Mary Ann Kincaid Room. These
books are of particular interest to Education majors and faculty. In addition
to providing classic children’s books, this collection contains all the Newbery
Medal winners, the Caldecott Medal winners, and the Coretta Scott King Award
winners. These books are available for standard check out by Wingate University
students, faculty, staff, and FOL members. The Kincaid Room may be reserved
for classes, storytelling, or other activities by contacting the Circulation
Desk.
Section VI. B. Ethel K. Smith Library Web-Site
Section VI. B. 1. Ethel K. Smith Library
Web-Site Mission Statement
The web-site of the Ethel K. Smith Library of Wingate University (http://library.wingate.edu)
has two specific aims. It is primarily a means of distributing Library resources
and services to students, faculty, and staff via the Internet. Such services
include, but are not limited to, access to the Library’s online catalog –
the EKSplorer, NC-LIVE, electronic databases, and various reference resources.
By extension, the Library web-site is a means by which the Library communicates
with the students, faculty, and staff by disseminating information about resources
and services offered by the Library, as well as publishing operational notices.
Section VI. B. 2. Web-Site General Policies
& Procedures: Administration
The web-site is administered by the Library Web-Master under the supervision
of the Director of the Library. The Library Web-Master is a Library staff
member designated by the Director of the Library. The Library Web-Master
is responsible for maintaining the Library site and web server. Other duties
include keeping the site and its links up-to-date and developing new pages
and services.
Finally, the Library Web-Master is responsible for revising the look and
general feel of the site in order to facilitate the site’s growing list of
services. The Library Web-Master may designate others to maintain specific
pages. Because the Library Web-Master is appointed from the library staff,
maintenance of the Library web-site must be balanced by the staff member’s
other duties.
Section VI. B. 3. Web-Site General Policies & Procedures:
Style and Content
Style will conform to the minimum requirement(s) as outlined by the Wingate
University Guide for Publishing on the Internet. That is that each Library
page will include a link to the Wingate University homepage, fonts and colors
will be consistent with those found on the Wingate University Website, and
that Librarians’ personal pages be relevant and consistent with their duties
and that each such page includes a link to the Library homepage and the University
homepage.
Beyond that, the style of the site is under the control of the Library as
outlined in Section VI. C. 2. The content of
the Library web-site is governed by the Library Mission Statement and Section
VI. C. 1. Under the direction of Director of the Library, the Library
Web-Master is responsible for deciding what constitutes consistent use of
the Library web-site and which services should be added to enhance the overall
Library Mission.
