Databases and Journals:

Databases: To access a specific database, go to the All Databases page. From the library homepage, select "Databases" then "All Databases" and make your selection from the alphabetical list. When connecting to Library databases from your personal computer, choose the "off campus" link and enter your Wingate userid and password.

Journals: To access subscription journals, try the AtoZ Directory. From the Library homepage, select "Databases" then "Journals" then "AtoZ Directory." Type the title of the journal in the textbox and search. If that journal is available, access information and publication dates are provided along with hyperlinks to specific Library databases offering electronic access to that journal (Wingate userid and password required). The AtoZ Directory also offers a browsable Subjects tab for when an exact journal title is not known.

Wingate userid and password: When connecting to Library databases from your personal computer, choose the "off campus" link and enter your Wingate userid and password. For questions regarding your Network username/password, contact Jimm Wetherbee at jimm@wingate.edu or 704-233-8092.

Bulldog Delivery Service:

Your professor at the Metro Campus will deliver books, articles, or ERIC documents to you after you request them via the forms available at http://library.wingate.edu/reference/bdstart.html. While there is no charge for books, articles or other printed information costs $0.10 per page.

Using the Library:

Reference Services: During the fall and spring semesters of the Main Campus Undergraduate Academic Year, the Reference Desk is staffed from 8:30am-10pm (M-Th), 8:30am-5pm (F), and 2p-10p (Su). During shortened summer hours, the Reference Desk is staffed at all times. Reference Services are not available on Saturdays. Reference help is available in person, by calling 704-233-8097, or by using Ask A Librarian e-mail and IM help.

Userid/Password: Your Network userid/password is required to access specific Library databases and journal subscriptions (and, of course, your Wingate e-mail account). It is different from your IRISLink account information. For questions regarding your Network username/password, contact Jimm Wetherbee at jimm@wingate.edu or 704-233-8092 or visit Wingate's Computers & Campus Network webpage.

Food, Beverages, and Cell Phones: Food is not permitted in the Library, but drinks in approved containers with lids are allowed. Use of cell phones is not permitted; please turn them off before entering the building.

University ID Card: No transaction is made in the Library without your Wingate University ID. This naturally means checking out books, but it also includes paying fines, checking out items from the Reserve Shelf, the Periodicals Desk, or checking out any AV materials.

Fines: A fine of $0.25 per book per day is charged for a book that is overdue.

Network userid and password, E-mail accounts, etc.

Help pages and FAQs for Campus Network Accounts, E-mail, IRISLink, and more can be found on Wingate's Computers & Campus Network webpage. For questions about setting up or using your campus userid and password, please contact:

Academic Resource Center

The Wingate University Academic Resource Center (ARC) is dedicated to helping students meet their academic goals. Within the ARC, students will find the offices of Academic Advising, the Wingate 101 program, disability services and the tutoring program. Students are encouraged to make use of the many services available through the ARC.

The Writing Center (Opening Fall 2008)

The Writing Center at Wingate University strives to help students, faculty, staff, and alumni grow into better writers. Our focus is on the individual writer and his or her needs; our goal is to encourage them to become “better, more confident writers” rather than simply producing “better writing.” The Writing Center’s methods are collaborative and reflect our respect for the individual writer. Our tutors encourage writers to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to understand how and why revisions are made.
