Winter Weather Advisory — 1/25/2013

January 25th, 2013 by jimm wetherbee in Announcements

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Union County in effect from 12:00 noon until 11:00 p.m. today. There is a possibility we could see snow and sleet this afternoon and evening with light accumulation (less than one half inch). The forecast also calls for freezing rain, which could produce an accumulation of a tenth of an inch of ice.

If you are planning to travel this afternoon, evening, tonight and early tomorrow morning, please be aware of changing weather and road conditions.

Based on the progression of this storm and the mixture of freezing rain and sleet, the University will close at 3PM today.  All classes will end at 2:50PM and University Offices will close.  The Office of Residence Life and Campus Safety will remain available for students by calling 704.233.8999.

Traveling later today, this evening, tonight and early tomorrow morning could be hazardous.  Please be aware of changing weather and road conditions as you make your travel decisions.

Please be cautious when walking around campus as sidewalks and steps could become icy and slippery.   The dining hall will remain open for dinner on Friday and brunch on Saturday morning regardless of weather conditions.  There is a possibility that other dining facilities will close to support the Dining Hall.  Notices will be posted on the door of those specific facilities affected.

Should the campus experience any power outages, students are instructed to remain in their rooms / apartments for safety.  Campus Safety and the Residence Life staff continue to be on full alert and will be available to assist with any needs.

Please continue to monitor your email and local weather reports for up to date information about this weather advisory.  Should you need assistance, please call Campus Safety at 704.233.8999. If weather conditions change and operations will be altered, you will be notified via the following outlets:
