In this month’s Student Assistant Spotlight are two very special assistants at the EKS library. Natalie Edwards and Kelly Griffith are “behind the scenes” in their tasks as library assistants.
Natalie is a senior this year majoring in History, with a minor in English, and hopes to attend the University of South Carolina or UNCG in the Fall of 2005 to work on her Masters in Library Science and Masters in Public History. Natalie has been working with Mr. Richard Pipes and Ms. Marilyn Brown as a “cataloging assistant” for the past 2 years . She says that she likes working in cataloging “because it really gives you a chance to see the process behind exactly why books have the specific call numbers that they have.” Natalie, a native of Marshville, NC, is also very active in her volunteer work with the Mephibosheth Angelic Riders Horse Farm, which provides therapeutic horseback riding for handicapped children.
Kelly is also a senior this year. She is Majoring in Business Management with an Accounting Minor . Kelly’s job as a library assistant is in the area of “Access Services.” She primarily assists Ms. Williams with the Inter-Library Loan requests. Kelly enjoys working in the library because of the “help I can provide and the people I work with.” Kelly loves working in a more specialized capacity at the library. Apart from Kelly’s devotion to her job in the library, she is also a member of Delta Sigma Pi (professional fraternity), and Delta Mu Delta (honors business society). She is also a peer tutor for Spanish and Business classes. After graduation in May, Kelly plans to return to her home town of Clayton, NC to begin her search for a career in Interior Design.
