Departmental Allocations Due
All faculty and department chairs are reminded that Library Materials Requisition Forms (aka New Book requests) must be received by Richard Pipes no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 31. Only completed forms will be accepted on the card stock supplied by the library will be accepted. Should you run short of forms, please let Mr. Pipes know. Department Chairs are asked to take special care to prioritized requests prior to submitting them to Mr. Pipes. Please do not give every item the highest priority. Doing so is the same as given each item no priority at all. The following may give some sense as to how to characterize the priority scheme.
- Priority 1: An essential resource. This would be a book, CD, or DVD that is of enduring value for undergraduates and graduates, and promises to be a standard within one’s discipline.
- Priority 2: A highly recommended resource. Perhaps not destined to be a standard but would nonetheless be something that you would expect to be used by undergraduates each time the relevant courses are offered.
- Priority 3: An optional resource. In this case an item that, while a valuable adjunct, is too narrowly focused to be expected to be used on a regular basis.
