Honorary/Memorial Book Donations

October 11th, 2004 by Richard Pipes in Collection Development

Here at the Library, we are often asked, “What is the appropriate amount to donate for a Memorial or Honorary book?” Book prices, like everything else these days, keep climbing. A glance through The Bowker Annual: Library and Book Trade Almanac, 2004 lists the following average prices:

“U.S. College Books” (college-level research and reference books)–$54.24
“U.S. Paperbacks” (scholarly titles, excluding mass market)–$30.02

We prefer to use hardcover books for our collection, since they will last longer and survive more checkouts, although we often purchase paperbacks because of availability or price. We especially prefer the Memorial and Honorary books to be hardcover so that the sentiment of the gift will be appreciated longer.

The Library appreciates and values each and every donation we receive. Honorary books and Memorials are a lasting way to recognize outstanding individuals and loved ones. And they are a great way to supplement and improve our Collection.

If you would like to make an Honorary Gift Donation please make checks payable to Wingate University. You may call Nancy Williams at 8091 for more information or to request a form.
