The Gate Now Available in a Digital Archive
Wingate University Special Collections recently partnered with The North Carolina Digital Heritage Center, a statewide digitization and digital publishing program housed in the North Carolina Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Digital Heritage Center works with cultural heritage institutions across North Carolina to digitize and publish historic materials online. The Digital Heritage Center provides libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, and other cultural heritage institutions with the opportunity to promote and increase access to their collections through digitization. The Center is supported by the State Library of North Carolina with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library and Services and Technology Act, and by the UNC-Chapel Hill University Library.
The partnership between WUSC and the Digital Heritage Center is responsible for the first digital online collection to come from the Wingate archive of Special Collections. This online collection showcases yearbooks beginning with Views of Wingate Junior College in 1924 and continuing through the 2009. Today the annuals are published exclusively online and available here.
As part of the North Carolina Yearbook collection, Wingate University is one of 66 contributing colleges and universities from across the state now available online for viewing.
