Technological Upgrade: Reference Computer Commons
During the Summer of 2007, the Reference Department computer equipment received a significant upgrade. A total of 19 stations have been installed (one of which is handicap accessible). The stations include flat screen monitors and terminals which converse with a main server in order to provide access to the Internet (NCLive, other online databases and the online catalog). The fact that the stations are not comprised of individual computers should increase the speed of the unit, in turn decreasing the patron’s wait time. This project also included two stations for the Main Stacks (floors 2 and 3) to facilitate online catalog searches. The Library Staff is pleased to be able to provide patrons with state-of-the-art search capabilities.
