The 2006-2007 Friends of the Library Board Annual Gift

upgrades to one of the Library’s study rooms by the 2005-2006 Board, an agreement was made to upgrade the chairs and tables in the Computer Commons of the Reference Department. Threerock, padded chairs and new tables were delivered in early January. The total gift includes: nineteen chairs and seven tables, one of which is   designed for patrons with disabilities.

Student response to the new, more comfortable furniture has been extremely positive. Of the gift, Debra H. Hargett (WU ’01—Ethel K. Smith Library Reference/Serials/ Special Collections Librarian) commented, “Students have been enjoying the comfort of the new furniture. One evening I overheard two individuals conversing about how cool the chairs were. I commented to them that I was glad they   approved of the new seating arrangements. Before I left the Reference Computer Commons area, they asked if we had new chairs upstairs. Based on that question and the increased activity at the Reference computers, I would say the furniture is a hit.” The Board has successfully heightened the research experiences for Wingate University students, faculty, and guest patrons.
