From the Reference Desk
The Reference staff of the Ethel K. Smith wishes to encourage faculty to inform us of library research projects which may require our assistance. Recently two professors have provided details of their upcoming assignments to the reference librarians. One instructor notified us that students would be requesting hard copies of bound periodicals such as Time, Life, and Newsweek for the decades between the 1950s and the 1990s. Another informed us that students would be coming into the library looking for the Oxford English Dictionary in order to find the etymologies of words used by John Donne in his poetry. Knowing of these assignments in advance allows the librarians to better prepare for the needs of our students, and that’s a positive situation for all concerned.
