New Areas for Your Laptop

November 9th, 2006 by Alison Simpson in Features

“The Library as Space” is a recurring thematic concept in Library school classes, conferences, and workshops. With this in mind, the Ethel K. Smith Library staff took some time during the Fall Break to rearrange the furniture in the Haskins Room and on the Mezzanine (both equipped with wireless access). Rather than spend time each morning putting the tables and chairs back in place, we decided to follow the students’ lead and put the furniture where they need it in order to Plug in and Power Up! You will notice that the tables and chairs are closer to the walls for more convenient outlet access. This small change has proven extremely beneficial. Traffic has certainly increased in these areas and students are staying longer at these tables marked “Laptop Accessible Workspace.” The Library staff would like to encourage you and your students to Plug in and Power Up!
