Leadership Fellows in DC

February 21st, 2006 by Alison Simpson in Student Assistants

Submitted by: Krishmaa Manandhar (Student Assistant)

Twenty three seniors along with Dr. Murray, Dr. Pam Thomas, Mrs. Odom and Mrs. Searcy had the opportunity to experience one of the significant events of the year.

We paid our heartfelt respects to all of those who sacrificed their lives for the future of America at the Arlington Cemetery. We experienced the scenery of Washington D.C. in a night tour of the monuments and historical sites. We had a private tour of the Pentagon where we were forever mesmerized by the 911 memorial. The rotunda of the Capital left everyone in awe with our personal tour given by Congressman Hayes’ assistant. We were able to meet shortly with Senator Richard Burr for a photo and a quick discussion in which he shared his experience of being in the political arena throughout his long career.

The highlight of the tour was the meeting with the Ambassador of Nepal, Mr. Kedar Shrestha, who invited us to his house. He was very gracious. He generously offered us Nepalese snacks. He disĀ¬cussed the current situation in Nepal, its unique culture and his role as an ambassador.

Throughout the tip the students and faculty were able to appreciate and realize the enormity of this trip. To sum it up, it was truly one of the greatest opportunities that all of us will remember forever.
