EBSCO Maintenance

April 29th, 2012 by jimm wetherbee in Announcements, Databases

EBSCO announced that it will be performing scheduled maintenance between 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5th and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 6th  on its  full-text access servers.

Direct access to articles from EBSCO’s linking services will be unavailable for the following list of publishers:

  • National League for Nursing
  • American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)
  • Intellect Ltd
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology Press (MIT Press)
  • College of Business and Public Affairs
  • e-Med
  • IUPAC
  • NRC Research Press

Only articles from these eight publishers accessed via Periodicals by Title,  SmartLinks, or LinnkSource will be affected. These publishers account for only 80 of the more than 15,000 journals handled by EBSCO’s linking services, so the overall impact should be minimal. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

EBSCOhost: There is an App for That

May 17th, 2011 by jimm wetherbee in Announcements, Databases

App for iPhone and iPod touchEBSCOhost introduced an iPhone app for its line of databases.  These databases include Academic Abstracts,  the MLA Bibliography, PscyINFO, and many others.

The new app is free, and offers the convenience and rich functionality that enables you to:

  • Choose which databases to search
  • Limit results to full text or peer reviewed
  • Sort by relevance or date
  • Retrieve full text results in HTML and/or PDF formats
  • Save results for offline access at a later date
  • Email results to self or others
  • View cover flow display of results

To get started log onto the EBSCOhost website with your iPhone, click on the EBSCOhost iPhone/iPod Touch Application link at the bottom of the EBSCOhost screen and follow the instructions.

Basically you will sent an e-mail that provides instructions for a 9-month certificate, avoiding the need to authenticate off of the library’s proxy server.  After the 9-month period is over, you would have repeat the process for another certificate.
