Friends of the Library (FOL) Faculty Award

September 29th, 2009 by Amee Odom in Friends of the Library

FOL LogoAs outlined in the Friends of the Library Board ByLaws:  The Faculty Award is presented to an outstanding member of the faculty who is supportive of the Library, encourages his/her students to take advantage of the Library’s resources, and pursues independent research via the facility. The recipient is awarded $500 ($400 to be spent on behalf of his/her department and $100 to make purchases for his/her personal library).

Dr. Nancy Bush (Assistant Professor of Marketing) was presented with the 2009 FOL Faculty Award at the FOL Spring Author’s Luncheon in March 2009.  Dr. Bush has been praised by the Library staff for her familiarity with Library resources in her discipline, the way she encourages student use of materials through concrete examples and directed learning and for promoting library resources to students and colleagues through recommendations following personal examination of new items in her Marketing newsletter.

Each year at the FOL Author’s Luncheon the FOL Board presents an award to a Wingate University faculty member. As outlined in the Friends of the Library Board: The Faculty Award is presented to an outstanding member of the faculty who is supportive of the Library, encourages his/her students to take advantage of the Library’s resources, and pursues independent research via the    facility. There is a monetary gift that accompanies the award. The recipient is awarded $500, of which $400 is to be spent on behalf of the recipient’s department and $100 to make purchases for his/her personal library.

For 2007, the FOL Faculty Award was presented to Dr. Lauren Merkle. She has been praised by the Library staff for initiating research projects in her    class assignments, encouraging students to conduct empirical research in her discipline area, and even conducting her own Bibliographic Instruction sessions for the subject-specific databases and resources.

The award was presented to Dr. Merkle by last year’s recipient, Dr. Brian Odom.
